Do you ever find that you take the time to set up a fun activity for your kids and then they hardly spend any time playing. Or they really enjoy it, but it leaves a mess? Maybe you’re stuck in a rut with the same ol’ activities and your kids seem uninterested. We’ve got the solution. Your kids will be over the MOON for our “M is for Moon” bubble wrap sensory activity! Perfect for a wide range of ages, easy to set up and let them play away– it’s sure to be a BLAST!

We found this awesome Duplo space set at Walmart and knew we needed to take our sensory play out of this world with it!

What you need:

Bubble wrap

Kinetic sand (a tray if you prefer to keep it contained)

Space legos, figurines, or get creative (you and your child could draw or print out pictures of space items to use)

How to play:

Set up your space (pun intended!) Create an inviting area for your child to play.

Build the legos together or have them assembled.

Set out the other items so they can play and create: kinetic sand, bubble wrap, scoops, toothpicks… get creative!

Model the play. Once you’ve made a mound or two of kinetic sand, press the bubble wrap into it and you’ll create indents in the sand that stay! Creating a moon-like textured surface. How fun!

Experiment with other textured objects to see how much you can make your space scene look realistic.

Benefits to sensory play:

According to Only About Children- https://www.oac.edu.au/

“Sensory play encourages learning through exploration, curiosity, problem solving and creativity. It helps to build nerve connections in the brain and encourages the development of language and motor skills.”

This sensory play activity also creates great opportunities for language development like counting down for your space ship to blast off, popping some bubble wrap and saying “POP POP POP”, and much more! Check it out and more bubbly sensory FUN on our Instagram and YouTube channel.
